About MCNA Data Breach 2023
In 2023, Managed Care of North America (MCNA), MCNA Insurance Company and Healthplex experienced a data breach that may have exposed the personal information of millions of people. The unauthorized access happened between February 26 and March 7, 2023. Depending on the person, the information involved could have included names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, health insurance information, and dental or orthodontic information such as treatment and billing details.
MCNA later notified affected individuals, and a class action lawsuit followed. The lawsuit claims the companies did not do enough to protect people’s personal information. The companies deny the allegations and deny doing anything wrong. The lawsuit was eventually resolved through a proposed settlement, which is why eligible people may now be able to claim compensation or receive other benefits.
Who is eligible?
The settlement class generally consists of people who were sent a notice telling them that their private information was potentially affected by the MCNA data incident.
So if you received an official MCNA settlement notice, that is the first thing to check.
If the notice was sent on behalf of a minor, the claim must be completed by the minor’s parent or court-appointed legal guardian.
How much money can you get?
The settlement allows eligible class members to claim up to $2,500 for documented, unreimbursed out-of-pocket losses connected to fraud or identity theft resulting from the data incident. That does not mean everyone who files will receive $2,500.
The settlement is looking for proof. This evidence should be documented and unreimbursed expenses that resulted directly from fraud or identity theft connected to the MCNA data incident.
The loss must have happened after the data incident and before March 7, 2026, and you must have made reasonable efforts to avoid the loss or seek reimbursement elsewhere.
You also cannot claim an expense that another source has already reimbursed you for. That means you should not simply enter an amount because you believe your information was exposed
The settlement has a total pool of up to $250,000 for these documented losses. If valid claims exceed the money available, payments can be reduced proportionally.
So think of $2,500 as the maximum for an individual documented-loss claim, not a guaranteed settlement check.
If you do not file a claim, you can still remain in the settlement class and receive two years of Medical Data Monitoring automatically. But you will not receive a cash payment for documented out-of-pocket losses unless you submit a valid claim.
When’s the deadline?
The deadline to submit the MCNA settlement claim is: October 19, 2026
If you file online, the official settlement website says your claim must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on October 19.
If you’re mailing a paper claim, it must be postmarked by October 19, 2026. The same October 19 deadline also applies to people who want to opt out of the settlement or object to it.
When will MCNA settlement payments be sent?
The settlement still requires final court approval. The final approval hearing is currently scheduled for November 16, 2026 at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Compensation will be distributed after final approval and resolution of any appeals.
So if you see a website promising that your MCNA settlement check is already on its way, I’d be cautious.
