My Experience Using Umma Diamond Sonic Toothbrush
Let me start with the part that genuinely impressed me.
It vibrates so fast it is nearly imperceptible to the eye, but boy can you feel it. There are 2 setting, low and high, with corresponding pitch. I am less tolerant of the high setting as my teeth are a bit sensitive, but the low setting is fine for general use.
After just one use, my teeth felt exceptionally clean. It gets the tea stains OFF and my teeth are bright! Not “pretty good,” not “about the same,” but that very specific smooth, polished, just-left-the-dentist feeling. I’ve used many electric toothbrushes over the years, including well-known brands, and none of them gave me that exact sensation after a single brush.
So yes, the Tao Clean Umma Diamond Sonic works. The brushing technology itself is effective, powerful, and clearly well-engineered.
But once the novelty wore off and I started using it daily, the cracks started to show.
The first issue is something so basic that it’s shocking it was overlooked. There is nothing to catch the water dripping off the toothbrush. When you place the brush back into the base, water runs straight down onto your bathroom countertop. Every single time.
For a product marketed as premium, this felt sloppy. I ended up placing a paper towel underneath it just to protect my counter. Functional, yes. Pretty? Not at all.
The second issue is where things really went downhill.
The UV light that is supposed to sanitize the toothbrush stopped working after about four weeks. At first, I didn’t notice. I trusted that it was doing what it claimed. But one day, I looked inside the compartment where the brush head sits.
It was full of mold.
That completely changed how I felt about this toothbrush. The feature that’s supposed to make it more hygienic actually created the opposite result once it failed. Moisture was trapped inside, and I had no idea until I checked myself.
Please don’t rely on the UV feature to clean your toothbrush. If anything, it gives a false sense of security. The brush head turned yellow and I thought it got sanitized. It’s gross.

I got one myself last week and It’s a great toothbrush and I like it even better than my Sonicare. My dislikes are it has a shorter battery life than than the Sonicare and, the replacement heads are way overpriced, and while the different modes are nice, there’s no indicator to tell you what mode it’s currently in. It’s fairly quiet and my teeth feel cleaner so I still like and it seems like a quality product.

This comparison comes up a lot, and it makes sense.
Tao Clean does deliver an impressive clean, possibly even more noticeable than Sonicare after a single use. However, Sonicare by Philips wins when it comes to long-term reliability.
I’ve used Sonicare brushes for years without worrying about broken features, moisture buildup, or hidden mold. Sonicare focuses on brushing performance and leaves out unnecessary extras.
Tao Clean adds UV sanitation, but in my experience, that feature introduces more problems than benefits.

If you already own one, clean the base regularly and do not rely on the UV light.
If you’re thinking of buying one, I’d strongly suggest choosing a simpler, more affordable electric toothbrush and avoiding the UV sanitation gimmick altogether.
