I tried Ryze Mushroom Coffee, and here’s why it didn’t live up to the hype. Read my honest review on taste, energy, weight loss claims, subscription issues, and more.
If you’ve spent any time scrolling through wellness influencers or TikTok morning routines, you’ve probably seen Ryze Coffee pop up. It’s that mushroom coffee blend everyone seems to swear by — better energy, no jitters, improved focus, and even gut health support.
But after using it for a few weeks, I’m here to tell you that… it wasn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

What Is Ryze Mushroom Coffee?
Ryze is a mushroom-based coffee alternative made with six functional mushrooms:
- Cordyceps (energy)
- Lion’s Mane (focus)
- Reishi (stress relief)
- Turkey Tail (gut health)
- Shiitake (immunity)
- King Trumpet (antioxidants)
In theory, it sounds like a superfood-packed coffee alternative that can help you with everything from energy to digestion to focus. I really wanted to love it. After all, it’s marketed as a smoother, cleaner alternative to regular coffee.
I bought directly from the Ryze store on Amazon.com. A 30-serving container costs $36. The subscription option brings it down a little.
First Impressions
When I first opened the container, the smell was… earthy. And I mean earthy. Think forest floor, not your regular coffee scent. When I mixed it with water, the flavor was mild but still kind of off — a little too nutty, a little too plant-like. I tried adding almond milk to smooth it out, but the flavor didn’t change much. If you’re used to strong coffee, this might not be for you.
As a mom of three, mornings are hectic. I decided to swap my regular coffee for Ryze to see if it could keep me going without the usual caffeine crashes. Unfortunately, I was left a bit disappointed:
- No caffeine buzz — Ryze lacks the usual kick you get from a strong coffee, so I didn’t feel as awake.
- Around mid-morning, I felt tired again, and had to turn to my usual coffee to get through the day.
- The no-crash benefit didn’t apply to me. I still ended up feeling drained by the afternoon.
In the end, it didn’t offer me the steady energy or focus I was hoping for during my busy days.
😠 Subscription Issues: Beware of Sneaky Charges
This was probably the most frustrating part of my experience with Ryze. I signed up for their subscription service to save a bit on cost, but when I tried to cancel my account, I found myself still being charged.
Here’s how it went down:
- After canceling, I noticed charges continued on my account the very next month.
- When I disputed the charges, Ryze’s customer service (Andrée, to be exact) denied I had ever canceled.
- I had to cancel again, and the same thing happened the next month.
- Finally, after going back and forth, I had to cancel my credit card entirely to stop the charges.
This is a major red flag in my book. Be cautious if you’re trying the subscription — it’s been a huge hassle to get them to stop charging me.
✅ Pros
- Gut-friendly ingredients — It’s easy on my stomach.
- Easy to make — Mixes quickly with hot water and works with milk alternatives.
- Natural ingredients — I like that it’s not packed with sugar or artificial additives.
❌ Cons
- Lack of energy boost — I didn’t feel the clean energy or focus it promised.
- Earthy taste — If you prefer a bold coffee flavor, you might not enjoy this one.
- Expensive — For a product that didn’t live up to expectations, the price is steep.
- Doesn’t Mix Well — It doesn’t blend as smoothly as regular coffee or other similar products. Expect some clumps or residue left in your mug.

🏛️ Is Ryze FDA-Approved?
Ryze Mushroom Coffee is not FDA-approved. As with most dietary supplements, the FDA doesn’t directly approve them but regulates for safety and proper labeling. Ryze claims they comply with all FDA requirements, but if you’re someone who looks for FDA approval when trying new products, just know that this one doesn’t have that seal.
Does Ryze Coffee Help With Weight Loss?
Ryze doesn’t market itself as a weight-loss product, but given all the influencer hype, I had high hopes for its “benefits” in that area. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice anything that directly impacted my weight.
While ingredients like MCT oil may help with fat metabolism, I didn’t feel any difference in my appetite or weight after incorporating it into my routine. It didn’t curb my snacking or lead to weight loss, despite what some social media influencers suggest. It’s not really built to be a weight loss solution, so don’t expect magic results.
Final Thoughts
Ryze Mushroom Coffee sounded great on paper, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype for me. As a busy mom looking for energy without the crash, it just didn’t provide the boost I needed. The earthy taste didn’t do it for me either, and the subscription issues left a bad taste in my mouth (pun intended).
Would I recommend it? Only if you’re already into mushroom-based supplements and don’t mind a more subtle, less potent energy experience. But if you’re hoping for something that’ll replace your daily coffee or help with weight loss, I’d suggest looking for other options.

Thank you so very much for your review. I was desperately trying to find something I can incorporate into my intermittent fasting and I kind of thought this product was too good to be true and way too expensive for me to take a chance on purchasing it plus I don’t have the patience with ongoing charges taken out of my bank account. Hopefully, I can find a cheaper alternative and works well with my gut.
I was at my local health food store last month and they were doing a demo on STIR which is similar to Ryze. I liked it so I bought a bag and I’m on my second one. It tastes great and has more benefits than Ryze. Since I only drink one cup of coffee per day in the morning I add a powdered magnesium and collagen (both unflavored) and it still tastes great. I noticed I have more energy and work out at the gym (I’m 72 but look and feel much younger). One bag of STIR lasts me a whole month and the price is about the same as the other brand. Try it, you’ll like it.
Reading your review answered my questions in re Ryze. I was considering buying it, but thought it a bit pricey. Based on your review, I’m no longer interested in even trying it. I used to live in southern Italy; so, I like my coffee espresso strong every cup. Thank you for an excellent review.
Thank you Judith for being honest with everything that happened to you explaining about the charges
I had to do that once with vitamins Co. That didn’t work.
I wish I had read the reviews before ordering and being coaxed into 3month subscription. subscription. I tried to canceled right after the first cup , but now I think I better check on that.
Your review was honest. After using the product I was disappointed . The taste and aftertaste is not good for me. There is to much hype about a product that is not FDA approved and have no positive results.
I too really wanted to like this stuff. My wife and I are life long coffee drinkers, and this tastes nothing like any coffee we have ever had. Sorry, but my wife used the word “revolting.” Tried pouring coffee on top of it, tried their “creamer” and real creamer, tried adding sugar or stevia… cant kill the taste, or get it to more closely resemble actual coffee. I’ll use what is left to offer to friends so they can judge for themselves before spending $$$ on this disappointment.
Sorry RYSE – Want to avoid this sort of thing? I’d recommend you send out some free samples first.
Ryze coffee company has no phone number or adequate way to reach them. No customer service, I guess. I’ve been trying to cancel my future orders for two months. The chat feature is not any good, either. I’m happy to return the package that arrived for a refund. But no one exists.
I’m very happy with RYZE coffee. I tried to drink two cups per day one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
I now drink just in the morning. I had really bad nightmares if I drink one in the afternoon.
I love the product, I will keep buying it.
