Do you want to buy Based Supplies Onion Hydrosol Shampoo? here’s a honest review from a stay at home mom who bought and tested this shampoo.
After seeing Instagram ads and reviews that claimed this shampoo and conditioner works wonder and is produced by a small, family owned business based in the United States, I decided to give it a try.
I ordered the shampoo and conditioner duo for $35 from basedsupplies.com. Here’s my brutally honest review after trying the Based Supplies Onion Shampoo for a week.
Spoiler alert: It was a terrible experience!

About Based Supplies Onion Shampoo
Based Supplies markets its onion shampoo and conditioner towards people looking for a hair care product that supports healthier looking hair. Right now, onion hydrosol shampoos are trending because of claims surrounding hair strength, reduced hair fall and hair growth.
Hence, I decided to give it a try.
My experience using this Onion Hydrosol Shampoo
My disappointment started before I had much opportunity to judge the shampoo. When the package arrived, I noticed that it had come from China, with “Made in China” printed on it. This was the same brand that claimed to be a US family owned business?
Then I opened the package and discovered that the conditioner was missing. I had paid $35 for a duo, so receiving only the shampoo was frustrating. I emailed customer service at info@basedsupplies.com, but I never received a response. For me, that was the bigger problem. Now, this is one huge red flag, especially as I checked on TrustPilot and saw similar experience from people who shopped from Based Supplies.
As for the shampoo, I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t smell strongly of onions. It had a mild herbal scent, lathered well and didn’t leave my hair feeling dry. From a texture and washing perspective, I would describe it as an average shampoo. It wasn’t unpleasant to use, but I didn’t notice anything remarkable that made it stand out from other shampoos.
My husband’s experience was less positive because his scalp became flaky after using it. I can’t say for certain that the shampoo caused the flaking, since scalp conditions can have different causes, but it was enough for us to reconsider using it as a family. A shampoo that feels fine on one person’s hair may not suit another person’s scalp.
I also didn’t establish any noticeable hair growth benefits from using Based Supplies Onion Shampoo, so I wouldn’t buy it specifically for that purpose. In the end, the product itself was fairly ordinary, while the shopping experience was the part that really put me off.
Anyways, I decided to investigate the US address listed on their website: 6420 Inducon Drive West, Sanborn, NY 14132. Turned out to be a shipping and logistics services. Based Supplies itself isn’t physically located there.
Better Alternative
We now use this ProBliva Onion Shampoo on Amazon, and it works well for my family, especially my husband. I have noticed my hair looks much healthier, thickened, and isn’t shedding as much.

The smell reminds me of a popular no-tears baby shampoo, which I love. I plan on continuing to use it for the foreseeable future

Cons

Is Based Supplies a Scam?
From my experience and that of other customers shared on TrustPilot.com, Based Supplies is not a trustworthy brand to shop from. They’re based in China, customer service sucks, and doesn’t grant refund request.
I bought the Onion Shampoo and Conditioner Duo for $35, but only the shampoo arrived. When I emailed customer service at info@basedsupplies.com about the missing conditioner, I received no response. I also looked into the company’s listed US address and found that it appeared to be associated with shipping and logistics services rather than a clearly identifiable Based Supplies business location.
