Does the RoboSeal jar sealer really keep food fresh for longer? I kept seeing ads that claimed it could keep food fresher than other mason jar sealers. So I immediately placed an order directly on the brand’s Amazon.com storefront (as I didn’t want to deal with international shipping hassles of its official website)

After using it for a while and even comparing it side by side with another jar sealer from Amazon.com, here’s my honest review.

Spoiler alert: It didn’t live up to the hype

About RoboSeal Jar Sealer

The Robo Seal is a cordless, rechargeable canning device that works with both regular-mouth and wide-mouth mason jars. It comes with 50 lids, a jar opener, and a charging cable. The idea is simple. You fill your jar with food, place one of the lids on top, put the RoboSeal on the jar, and press the button. The machine sucks out the air and creates a vacuum seal. This, in theory, should help food stay fresher for longer by slowing down spoilage.

The brand claims that their jar sealer keeps food fresher than other similar sealers on the market, which is what really pushed me to buy it. I wanted to see if it could stand out from the crowd and actually deliver on that promise.

My experience using Robo Seal canning device

When I first got the RoboSeal, I was pretty excited to try it. The packaging was neat, and the device itself felt sturdy and easy to use. Charging it was straightforward, and I loved that it had a battery indicator so I could see how much power was left.

Battery Life Test

The very first thing I noticed was how long the battery lasted. I tested it by sealing two small bottles, and the battery only dropped by about one percent. That told me right away that this gadget can last for a good while on just one charge. If you’re someone who seals jars regularly, this is a big plus because you won’t be stuck recharging it all the time.

How Long Does the Seal Last?

Of course, a jar sealer is only as good as its seal. I decided to test how long the vacuum would actually hold. I didn’t cover the jar with lid after sealing, and it held for about three days before losing its seal. This is not terrible, but it’s also not groundbreaking. From what I’ve seen, other jar sealers on Amazon perform about the same way.

Banana Freshness Experiment

Now here’s where I really wanted to put RoboSeal to the test. Bananas are one of those fruits that spoil super quickly once they’re cut. So, I cut a banana into quarters and placed one chunk in a mason jar sealed with RoboSeal and another in a jar sealed with a fellow mom’s generic Amazon jar sealer. I left both jars on the counter for four days.

When I opened the jars, both banana chunks looked about the same. Neither was significantly fresher than the other. The RoboSeal jar did not keep the banana looking any better than the generic sealer. Honestly, this was a little disappointing since the ads made it sound like RoboSeal was far superior to its competitors. In real life, that just wasn’t the case.

Everyday Use

For everyday things like nuts, rice, herbs, or even leftovers, RoboSeal does its job. It creates a vacuum seal, it helps food last longer in the fridge or pantry, and it is convenient to use. But so does the other Amazon jar sealer I compared it with. The results were identical, which makes me question the big claims that RoboSeal’s ads make.

My Honest Observation

After using the RoboSeal for a few weeks, here’s what stood out to me:

  1. The battery life is very good. I barely saw the charge move even after multiple uses.
  2. If the lid isn’t shut tightly before sealing, the vacuum only lasts about three days.
  3. RoboSeal does not keep food fresher than other generic mason sealers.

So while RoboSeal is a functional and decent jar sealer, it does not live up to the claim of being better than others.

Affordable Alternative

I know many moms like me shop on Amazon for affordable kitchen gadgets. And honestly, if you’re deciding between RoboSeal and another brand I would suggest going with the latter option.

This unbranded Amazon sealer I compared it with is priced around $29, but you can get it for $26 if you choose colors like black or blue. Right now, they are also offering a 10 percent discount with the code 6OREEM82 if you buy more than one.

Pros of RoboSeal

  • Long-lasting battery
  • Easy to use with one button
  • Works on both wide and regular-mouth jars
  • Comes with reusable lids

Cons

  • Does not outperform others

Final Thoughts

The RoboSeal Jar Sealer works, and it does what it is supposed to do. It vacuum seals mason jars, it extends the freshness of food for a few days longer, and it is simple to operate. However, it is not the game changer that the ads make it out to be. In my side-by-side comparison with a generic Amazon jar sealer, there was no difference in performance.

If you are looking to add a jar sealer to your kitchen, I would honestly recommend going with one of the affordable options on Amazon. You’ll save a few dollars, get the same results, and still enjoy the convenience of vacuum sealing your jars at home.

At the end of the day, RoboSeal is not a bad product, but it’s also not a standout. It’s one of those gadgets that works fine, but if you already have another jar sealer, you don’t need to rush out and replace it.

For me as a mom who’s always balancing budget and practicality, I’d say skip RoboSeal and grab the Amazon version instead. It gets the job done without the extra hype.
