Does Nutrafol Postpartum hair growth supplement really work? Here’s my brutally honest review of Nutrafol as a stay at home mom of three dealing with postpartum alopecia.

If you follow my blog you’d know that postpartum alopecia is one of the issues I’ve been dealing with ever since I put to birth last year. I’ve tried a handful of products, especially the viral Tiktoks find, but honestly they never lived up to the hype.

My hair loss got so bad that I eventually cut my hair, hoping it would help. It didn’t. My hair kept shedding even as it started growing back, and honestly, I was fed up.

Not until another mom in a Facebook mom forum recommended Nutrafol Postpartum Hair Growth Supplement. After reading its product reviews, I immediately placed an order on Amazon.com and it got delivered in 3 business days (perks of being an Amazon Prime girlie)

I’ve now been taking Nutrafol Postpartum for two months, and for once, I have something positive to report.

About Nutrafol Postpartum Hair Growth Supplement

Nutrafol is a hair wellness brand that makes supplements for different hair concerns, including products for women, men and postpartum women. The company also makes hair care products such as shampoo and conditioner.

Nutrafol Postpartum is a hair growth supplement designed specifically for women during the postpartum period. Nutrafol Postpartum contains a combination of vitamins, nutrients, botanical ingredients and marine derived ingredients.

Some of the ingredients that stood out to me include shatavari, marine collagen, DHA omega 3s and L theanine.

Shatavari is a botanical traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine and is included in the formula as part of Nutrafol’s postpartum stress and recovery support.

Marine collagen supports hair strength and overall hair health. The DHA omega 3 component is sourced from algae, while L theanine is included as part of the formula’s stress support.

Rather than being marketed as a simple vitamin for hair, the formula combines these nutrients and botanical ingredients intended to support hair growth while also addressing factors such as stress and nutritional changes as it is some of the issues we deal with in postpartum phase.

It costs $88 per one and contains 120 capsules, you take 4 capsules daily with a meal.

My experience using this hair growth supplement for postpartum alopecia

I have been using Nutrafol Postpartum for three months, and I’ll be honest, the first month didn’t give me much to talk about. I was still shedding, so I wasn’t about to declare the supplement a miracle. I simply continued taking it and waited.

Around the second month, however, I started noticing that there wasn’t quite as much hair coming out in the shower. I was also seeing less hair on my brush. I started seeing little baby hairs around my hairline. My hair also looked fuller and healthier to me.

That might sound like a small thing, but when you’ve been dealing with excessive postpartum shedding, noticing less hair in your hands feels like a big win.

I’m not going to claim that every new hair is definitely because of Nutrafol. Postpartum hair naturally goes through a recovery process, and shedding can eventually settle down on its own. But considering how severe my shedding had been and the changes I noticed after starting the supplement, I’m genuinely pleased with my results so far.

One thing I specifically love about this supplement is that you can take it while still breastfeeding. I and my baby have no side effects so far. According to the product information, it features a proprietary blend of 26 breastfeeding-friendly vitamins, minerals, and natural ingredients, and it is OBGYN-developed.

So if you’re a fellow breastfeeding momma, this supplement is safe to take. However, it’s always a good idea to check with your healthcare provider before starting. I showed my OB-GYN and she gave me a thumbs up.

My Before and After Results

Side Effects

Like I mentioned earlier, I haven’t experienced any side effects from taking Nutrafol Postpartum hair growth supplement. However, one thing I don’t like is the size and number of pills to take daily. You take four capsules every day, and they aren’t exactly tiny. If you’re someone who struggles with large pills, this could become annoying.

Hopefully, the brand would upgrade the supplements in the future so we get to take lesser capsules daily. I’m keeping my fingers crossed on that wish.

Pros

  • Specifically formulated for postpartum women
  • Contains ingredients such as shatavari, marine collagen, DHA and L theanine
  • Breastfeeding friendly
  • Started seeing results by the end of first month

Nutrafol Postpartum Cons

  • Pricey
  • Four fairly large capsules have to be taken every day

My Takeaway

After two months, I would recommend Nutrafol Postpartum to a postpartum mom who is struggling with hair shedding and can comfortably afford it.

However, if you’re actively breastfeeding (exclusive breastfeeding), I’d also suggest boosting your milk supply with nutritional diets as I read from a fellow mom that this supplement could lower your milk supply, though I never experienced same.

If you’re dealing with postpartum hair loss, just remember that hair growth is slow. Don’t expect dramatic results in a couple of weeks. Give your body time, be consistent and, if your hair loss is unusually severe or continues well beyond the normal postpartum period, talk to a healthcare professional rather than assuming a supplement is the answer.

For this postpartum mom of three, though, two months of Nutrafol has given me something I desperately wanted to see again: less hair falling out and new hair growing in.
