Does the Tick Mitt really work? Is it really worth buying? These were the questions I asked when I came across Ads for it online. I honestly thought it looked a little gimmicky. I mean, a glove that supposedly helps remove ticks from pets sounded almost too simple.

However, a couple of positive reviews on Amazon made me cave in. And because I am forever an Amazon Prime girlie, I ordered it from the brand’s Amazon storefront instead of tickmitt.com.

If you’re considering buying the Tick Mitt this tick season, here’s my brutally honest review as a dog owner and stay at home mom of 3.

About Tick Mitt

According to tickmitt.com, the glove works using a patented, scientifically engineered microfiber fabric that grabs loose crawling ticks “like Velcro” as you gently rub it across clothing, skin, or pet fur. The idea is that instead of waiting until ticks attach and bury themselves deeper into the skin, the mitt helps catch them while they are still moving around on the surface after walks, hikes, backyard play, or outdoor activities.

The process itself is very simple. You rub the mitt slowly over your pet’s fur, your clothes, or exposed skin, paying attention to areas where ticks commonly hide, then afterward you can either remove the ticks manually or place the mitt inside the included mesh bag and toss it into the dryer on high heat for about ten minutes to kill the ticks.

So, I did a little bit of research and discovered Tickmitt was actually founded by a father and daughter duo, Steve and Olivia Abrams, after their family personally dealt with Lyme disease and years of struggling with dogs bringing ticks into the house.

My experience using this tick removal glove

When it first arrived, one thing I genuinely appreciated immediately was the fitted wrist section. It fitted snugly. Secondly, on first use, our dog tolerated it really well. She usually acts deeply betrayed anytime grooming tools come out. But because the Tick Mitt just feels like gentle brushing or petting, we were able to work it into our regular routine whenever we came inside from walks or backyard playtime.

Does it really trap ticks? Yes, it does. The first time, it caught two ticks (as seen below).

I chose the Neon color specifically because I wanted maximum visibility. If I am dealing with tiny crawling ticks, I need contrast. I do not want dark fabric hiding what I am trying to remove. And I will say right away that choosing yellow ended up being the smartest decision because it really does make the tiniest little ticks easier to spot.

If ticks are crawling on top of the fur or have not fully embedded themselves yet, the glove works surprisingly well at grabbing them quickly. It is much faster than relying only on your hands, especially when your pet has thick fur and refuses to sit still for detailed inspections.

However, I’ve to be honest here, once ticks are buried deeper beneath dense fur or attached closer to the skin, Tickmitt cannot really fish them out effectively. Personally, I see it as the first line of defense. We use it immediately after outdoor activity to catch surface crawlers before they settle deeper.

Add Ons

I also started using a few extra products that honestly made a huge difference this tick season because I wanted something more complete for prevention and deeper checks. I added Wondercide Flea & Tick Shampoo for Dogs and Cats on Amazon.com (also has great reviews BTW)

I am loving how clean and fresh it leaves our dog without that overpowering chemical smell some flea shampoos have. I also love that it works for both fleas and ticks. We genuinely have not seen any ticks since we added the Wondercide to their bath days. So yeah, I suggest you get one too as an added protection, and not just rely on Tick Mitt.

Tips on Using Tick Mitt

I don’t use the dryer method because it seems a bit complicated. I don’t want to continue to use the glove on my dog with active ticks crawling on it.

So here’s what I do; before using the glove, I set aside a small container or cup with some rubbing alcohol in it. Once a tick appears on the glove, I grab it with my free hand (or tweezers), then dip those fingers (or tweezers) into the alcohol and release the tick in the liquid.

The alcohol paralyzes the tick so it doesn’t hold onto my fingers/tweezers, and it kills the tick fairly quickly. When done, flush the ticks and save the cup/container for future use!

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Did not irritate our dog

Cons

  • Only works well at the surface fur level. If ticks are deeply buried inside thick coats or already attached close to the skin, this glove is not going to magically pull them out.
  • You still need proper tick removal tools and regular manual checks for that.
  • It’s not a preventative method. If your pet has tick eggs it can’t stop them from developing.

Does Tick Mitt Glove Work?

Honestly, yes.

As long as you understand what it is designed to do.

If you expect it to remove every deeply embedded tick hidden inside dense fur, you will probably end up disappointed. But if you want a fast, easy, low stress way to catch surface crawling ticks before they settle in, it genuinely works well.

And for under twenty dollars, I actually think it earns its place in our pet care routine.

Especially during heavy tick season.

As a mom and pet owner, anything that helps me spot ticks faster while making life slightly easier automatically gets points from me. Tickmitt is not some magical miracle invention, but it is one of those simple practical products that quietly becomes useful once you start using it regularly.

And honestly, after catching that first tiny tick I never would have seen otherwise, I completely understood the hype.
